This distance instilled by eyes opening wide
I can see this energy
And the ways I’ve been blind
Images shatter and crumble to the ground
Words all too familiar and meaningless
Nothing but the sound
I push away and cling to what’s real
Knowing nothing in this world
Should ever be taken for granted
Including what you think you feel
Words and whispers hollow
Shared time and laughter echo
These moments and space between
Sometimes seem to mean nothing
The fool in me falls and believes
Anything heard due to anything dreamed
To know one day it’ll fall like dust
Meaningless love and sacred trust
At that time, I’ll be able to say
I knew this then
And that too will be meaningless
Again
