All Is Calm

Death, I wait tonight
For your kiss, for your life
Call me back home
To your breast, to your arms
Oooooh, oooooooh...

And we have met before
On these stairs, at this door
Time fades away till it's gone
Midnight and dawn
Into your arms I am yours again
Touch my cheek, I am cold
As I sleep, so I am born again
Nestled deep
All is calm
All is calm

It's a masquerade
In a field of gold
On a moonlit night
It's a free fall
When she took my hand
On the silver chord
Let me in tonight
Let the feeling grow
When you turn your head
Will I see the light?
Will you take me home
Into Paradise?
She's all right
She's all right
She's all right with me

How long?

Today

No more words to follow the deeds
No more ambition to follow the passion
This is the life we lead
This is the path we heed
Another world takes the life we knew
The edges wash away with these western tides
And all that isn’t fully a part
Falls apart
It washes into the oceans below
A young man might call this loneliness
And older man might see this and understand it
But one is all we need
And most often, that isn’t even
A part of the deal
This is what you become
Whether successful or
One of life’s beautiful losers
This is what you choose
This is what you witness
This piece of life is no longer mine
This piece of my heart is no loner fine
We follow the path that is lead
And we sink just like it
Until the day we wake up dead
The heart learns to obey
The mind leads the passions astray
The body bends day after day
And the soul, if lucky, awaits its reckoning day
We see the time has come
If ever it’s to come to pass
To pass onto our seed
If there’s some hope for our soul to last
We let life bleed away our worth
In order to breed this child its birth
And hope and pray that maybe one day
Those dreams might manifest their best
Through this glimmer of life before it too
Becomes yet again part of this becoming earth

Turn Your Eyes

Are those halos in your hair
Or diamonds shining there?
Without a hope, without a prayer
This rain beats down like death
Turn your eyes to better men
Before I go I'm hangin' a cross on a nail
I hung one for you in there

Girl, lay your shame to rest
And hold the lies close to your breast
You stoop to feed the crows
Some scraps of truth already cold
Before I go I'm hangin' a cross on the nail
I hung one for you in there
And every kingdom of rain comes pouring down
'Cause I loved you so long

'Cause I loved you so long..
Would you put halos in your hair?
Without a hope, without a prayer
With lies close to your breast
You finally lay your shame to rest
Before I go I'm hangin' a cross on the nail
I hung one for you in there
And every kingdom of rain comes pouring down
'Cause I loved you so long
'Cause I loved you so long..

Unfolding

It appears before you

Almost from out of nowhere

Singing the black bird's song

And its so completely dark

That it seems as though it's always been there
Or at least that it belongs…
The hole just opens up

And the clearing calls you in

Then everything changes

And the real fun begins

Like a ride with no ending

Or a witnessed transformation

You watch yourself become someone else

But in slow motion

And this life flashes before you

With all details magnified for you

And 1, 10, or 6 years in the distance

Become one single instant..

I can only assume that the remainder will unfold this way

And every day I ever notice

I'll expect to feel this way

And your humor surprises you

Because you can do nothing but giggle

As the things that once excited you

Tend to come back to bite you

And there's that silent understanding

Of pushing through what life's typically demanding

You notice how to some it seems somber

And to others, it breeds wonder

But like most reflections

Or varying opinions

To you, it makes little difference..

The unfolding of life is what dictates

And your input is limited to only choosing what frustrates

Because the mind is simple

And the emotions at best are little more than fickle

But your perception has adjusted to the black of that hole

And eventually recognizes the faintest light of any distance
