There’s a sound
Coming from
The other room
I know its love
Although it doesn’t sound like love
Not the love of poems
Nor romance
Not even the love
Between bodies
This face of love
Has the voice of war
Has the touch of history
And has the scent of fire
It breaks my heart
Although my heart
Does not lie in its trenches
My heart
Has become enflamed
By the flesh of more personal
Memory
This love hides in blood
Yet it is brighter than
The sun
It’s the love that none can escape
Not even if the battle is won
The war is never over
Not even in death
Are our soul’s freed
It’s thick and thin
Balls to bone
Even within insanity
This flesh we’re born into
This blood wound tight
Like chains
Bound to our loins
Nectar of our hearts
No matter what is taken away
The family forever remains
